BUILDING COLLEGE
The College offers a five years B.S degree in Architecture and Town
Planning and a three year Advanced diploma in Building Technology.
The Building Materials Testing and Reserach Institute conducts testing
and research on building methods and materials. The research and testing
is aimed at:
- better utilization of building materials in Ethiopia
- raising and maintaining the levels of quality in construction in
Ethiopia
- providing advice and information regarding building materials
available in Ethiopia.
History
The College was founded in 1954 through a bilateral agreement with
Sweden to assist in the improvement and development of building
activities in Ethiopia. The college opened its doors to students in
October 1955.
The initial program was a three year course in Building Technology.
In 1958 a fourth year was added for those candidates qualified to recieve
a B.Sc degree in Building Engineering. The B.Sc program was discontinued
in 1960.
ADMISSION
Students are admitted into the Building Technology department based on
their ESLCE performance. The Department of Architecture and Town
Planning admits students who pass the admission test
among those who successfully completed one semester in the freshman
program of the College of Natural Sciences.
