First, we need to form the 'core group', preferably individuals who were instrumental in the original effort. Im thinking 6 would be a nice number for a core group. Dont ask how I came up with this number. there was no formula (other than divine inspiration:). The members of the original group were: -Abass Alameneh -Fesseha Atlaw -Tekle Awdew -Tsehay Demeke -Yitna Firdyiwek -Grum Ketema -Theodros Kidane -Samuel Kinde -Terrefe Ras-Work -Teshager Tesfaye -Tadesse Tsegaye -Matewos Worku Yitna & Abass, any suggestions on who we should approach? Or should we send out a note to everyone and see who replies? Are there any individuals not on this list that we think would be interested contributors to this effort? I cant think of any right now. Secondly, I am interested in finding out what happened to the CSES (Committe for Standardization fo Ethiopian Script). Can any of you give is a brief blurb on how it got started and where it got stalled. I really would like to avoid any of the obstacles that you might have faced last time. Can Abass and Yitna write something short (I dont want to take too much of your time for this) about your experiences with the CSES? -yonas Oh, one last thing. I apologize if I lead you guys to believe that UTC is the name for this group. UTC is actually a committee within the Unicode Consortium. It stands for Unicode Technical Committee). The following is taken from the unicode.org web pages: The Unicode Technical Committee (UTC) is the primary decision making body within the Unicode Consortium's membership. All issues pertaining to the state of the Unicode Standard are voted on within the UTC. Each full member in the Consortium is entitled to one vote within the UTC. Associate, liaison, and individual members (along with outside observers) are allowed to participate in the UTC meetings but may not vote nor participate in any closed-caucus UTC meetings. This brings us to a name for ourselves. Do we really need a name? Should we take the name of the original group (Committee for Standardazation of Ethiopian Script)? Im not sure if this is a good idea because 1. we are not a committee and 2. is may or may not be wise to be identified as the same group (of course this depends on the outcome of the origina CSES). Do you think it would be a good idea to be covered under a larger umbrella organization (such as the ESS)? Any ideas? -- ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Yonas Fisseha, Software Engineer (708)632-6340 Pager: 0113 Motorola, Wireless System Platforms fisseha@cig.mot.com -----------------------------------------------------------------------
