INTRODUCTION

The Committee for Standardization of Ethiopian Script, composed of Ethiopians who are professionals in the various science and engineering fields, was formed to study The Unicode Technical Committee's draft proposals for Ethiopian language groups. The work done in the proposals is commendable and our Committee feels indebted to Joe Becker and all of the other participants for the invaluable service rendered to the Ethiopian community.

As native speakers of the various languages using the Ethiopian script, and professionals working in computer related areas, the members of our committee have carefully analyzed the proposals and would like to present the following views and recommendations.
